For a sustainable world

Over the past few years, together with our farmers, partners, and baristas—who work with our milk every day—we’ve learned a great deal about the impact of our milk on people, animals, and the planet. Sustainability is a broad concept. For us, sustainability means producing milk and dairy products responsibly, with a focus on animal welfare, the climate, nature, and a fair, future-proof food chain. Sometimes this happens on the farm, and other times we make improvements in areas such as packaging. Here you can read about what makes Holland Jersey a unique, more sustainable milk and what sustainability improvements we’ve already achieved in recent years.

Different cow, different milk. Jersey milk comes from a Jersey cow. A Jersey cow is a small brown cow with a white muzzle. They originate from the island of Jersey; they are intelligent, a bit headstrong, and curious. Jersey milk is popular because it naturally contains 20% more protein and 35% more fat. Thanks to the Jersey cow’s more efficient digestion and longer small intestine, it extracts far more nutrients—including vitamins B2, D3, and E, calcium, and omega-3—from its feed than other breeds. This gives it a distinctive, rich flavor. Perfect for drinking straight or frothing up for your cappuccino. Our Jersey milk and yogurt contain the A2 protein*. This makes the milk easier to digest. Many people with intolerances benefit from it. All our milk comes straight from the cow. We don’t add any unnecessary additives—it’s all-natural. We do not skim our milk; it is pasteurized and homogenized, just like almost all fresh milk in stores. This ensures that the product is safe to eat.

WE DO NOT SKIM OUR MILK

REGULAR (HOLSTEIN) MILK VS. JERSEY MILK

Small in stature, big in performance. The Jersey cow produces fewer liters of milk than a Holstein, but her milk is naturally rich in fat and protein. And because she efficiently converts her feed into milk, she produces more milk per kilogram of feed. A small cow with a surprisingly sustainable impact.

REGULAR (HOLSTEIN) MILK VS. JERSEY MILK

At Holland Jersey, we believe that sustainability is part of every step. Our milk is naturally a more conscious choice, thanks to the unique characteristics of the Jersey cow. But even beyond the milk itself, we continue to seek improvements. For example, we’re making our packaging more sustainable step by step, including our long-life UHT packaging. This packaging now consists of 80% plant-based materials, such as FSC-certified cardboard, bioplastics (plastic made from sugar beets), or biodegradable plastic.
